Steven Skrzybski: Finally get our rewards

After assisting the second equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Mainz, Steven Skrzybski now has three assists in last two games, having set up two goals in the DFB-Pokal win over Schweinfurt. “I’m pleased that I could help the team,” said the attacker, who is hoping to start on Saturday against Wolfsburg.

“Obviously I’d prefer to start – just like everyone else,” said the 27-year-old. At the same time, Skrzybski stressed: “The coach is the one who decides who is in the starting XI. If he picks me as a sub, then I will still give my all. Anybody who knows me knows that I will give 100% in every single minute I’m on the pitch playing for FC Schalke 04.”

Nobody is walking around the training ground with a grin on their face with our current sporting situation. Nevertheless, hiding from it isn’t a solution either.

Schalke’s next game will be against a tough side in Wolfsburg, which Skrzybski is well aware of. Despite this, the forward is hopeful of a positive result. “We want to pick up where we left off against Mainz and finally get our rewards.” The Royal Blues put in their best display of the season away against the Zerofivers, but still only came away with a solitary point. Although that was frustrating, Skrzybski feels that that game has given the side some additional confidence.

“Nobody is walking around the training ground with a grin on their face with our current sporting situation. Nevertheless, hiding from it isn’t a solution either. We need to carry on working hard and I think we’ve done that in training in recent days,” commented Skrzybski. Nonetheless, he was quick to point out that “talking about winning doesn’t mean anything. We need to show our desire on the pitch!”
