Timo Becker: We want to win for ourselves!

Timo Becker has been a fixed presence in the Schalke team during the Rückrunde. He played the full 90 in 13 of the last 16 league games and has left the impression that he is a player the club can build on moving beyond this season. “I got my chance – and I think I took it pretty well,” the defender said two weeks ago upon extending his contract until 30th June 2023.

“For me personally, the year has gone well. But I won’t be resting on my laurels; I will continue to work hard on myself,” reflected Timo Becker on his personal development. The pain of the sporting events at FC Schalke 04 hurt even more for the youngster who grew up dreaming of playing for the club. Next season, he’s hoping he can play his part in bringing some joy back to Royal Blues fans and supporters.

If you come here as an outsider, you can quickly fall in love with this club.

Before the season ends and S04 drop down to the second tier, Becker wants to sign off with a win, just as in the last home game against Eintracht Frankfurt. That our opponents are desperate for a win to maintain their own survival hopes will play no role for Becker when Schalke head to Cologne on Saturday (22.5). “We aren’t taking about the situation at Köln. Our aim is clear: we want to win,” Becker emphasises from the club’s quarantine training camp.

Following the final matchday, some players will depart, while others will arrive. Becker is convinced that the Royal Blues will have a powerful team ahead of the next season. He will also gladly assume the responsibility of helping new signings acclimatise to live in Gelsenkirchen. “I’ve been a Schalker since Kindergarten; I live and breathe the values of this club,” he tells. “And I think if you come here as an outsider and experience what Schalke means to the people of this season, what it’s like here, you can quickly fall in love with this club.”
