Maximilian Wöber: I want to prove at Schalke that I belong in the Bundesliga

Wöber’s first week with the team started with the new signing introducing himself to his new teammates in style. “I had the chance to perform a song for the team during our first dinner together,” he shared. As luck would have it, the annual tradition of having the new signings perform for the team fell on the day of his arrival in Austria. Wöber stood up on his chair and delivered a rendition of ‘Wonderwall,’ by Oasis.

Having showcased his musical talent, Wöber is now looking to catch the eye with his abilities on the pitch. “I want to prove at Schalke that I belong in the Bundesliga,” he said. Injuries restricted the 28-year-old to just three appearances for SV Werder Bremen last season, while he has made his intentions clear for the upcoming campaign. “I want to now get as fit as possible and take a positive mindset into what lies ahead,” Wöber shared.

The defender trained at the ÖFC-Campus during his summer holiday in order to help work his way back to full fitness as quickly as possible. “I now feel better than I did over the last two years,” he shared, with plenty of hard work still to come before the competitive season gets underway in late August. “With my experience and my personality, I want to become a key figure in the dressing room,” Wöber said.

Having featured in over 170 top-flight games across Germany, Austria, Spain, England and the Netherlands, Wöber shared that being at Schalke is a special feeling for him. “The club have an incredible history and tradition,” the defender said. “What’s more, head coach Miron Muslic’s playing style appealed to me right from the start. Things couldn’t have turned out much better for me.”
