Junior Adamu: Schalke feels like a really good fit for me
Junior Adamu is at the very start of his Schalke chapter. On Sunday (5/7), the forward stepped out in front of the Royal Blues’ fans for the first time at the opening training session and was immediately taken by his new surroundings. “The atmosphere is brilliant,” he said with a beaming smile. His aim for the coming weeks is clear: “I want to give everything in pre-season and put into practice what the coach is asking of us.”
The positive feeling Adamu had during his talks with S04 has continued through his first few days in Gelsenkirchen. “I’ve already got a good connection with my teammates too,” the 25-year-old said after his first session. The striker already looks settled in the dressing room. The same goes out on the pitch, where his enthusiasm was impossible to miss during the opening session.
Around 3,700 fans got their first look at his upbeat personality at Berger Feld at the start of the 2026/27 season, seeing the right-footer receive the traditional flicks on the ear from his teammates as part of his welcome in good humour. Adamu appreciated seeing so many Schalke supporters in attendance, although it didn’t come as a surprise. “The lads had already told me what it’s like here,” he said.
Dejan Ljubičić told me I was absolutely making the right move.
Dejan Ljubičić in particular, who is currently still on holiday following Austria’s World Cup exit, was in contact with his fellow Austrian before the move. “He told me I was absolutely making the right move,” Adamu revealed with a smile. In truth, it did not take much convincing to bring the former SC Freiburg forward, who was most recently at Celtic, to Gelsenkirchen. “Schalke just feels like a really good fit for me.”
Now officially a Royal Blue, Adamu wants to show head coach Miron Muslic what he can bring to the table, and before long, excite a sold-out VELTINS-Arena with the way he plays. He describes his game as being built on “runs in behind, dangerous moments in the box and defensive work”. Together with his qualities as a team player, that gives him everything he needs to make the chapter that has just begun a successful one. “I want to help the team and, together with everyone else, show what we’re capable of.”
