For more than 12 years, Vitalie Becker has been a Royal Blue. Aged eight, he switched from SV Zweckel to the U9s at FC Schalke 04, and the left-footer has since come through the ranks of every youth team at the Knappenschmiede. On Friday (1/8), he finally fulfilled his big dream against Hertha BSC. “I’ve worked towards this moment for many years,” said the 20-year-old, who was named in the starting XI against the Berliners and was able to celebrate his professional debut.

Nikola Katic was diagnosed with a concussion following Friday evening’s match against Hertha BSC (01/08). As is standard in such cases, he spent the night under medical observation but was discharged on Saturday morning (02/08) and allowed to return home. He will not take part in training for the time being and will continue to be monitored by the club’s medical team. FC Schalke 04 wish Nikola a full and speedy recovery.

Peter Remmert: The craziest way I’ve ever set up a goal

Friday night’s (1/8) opening game of the new 2. Bundesliga season against Hertha BSC could hardly have gone any better for youngster Peter Remmert. The striker was handed his first start for the club and assisted the opening goal in a 2-1 win. The only thing that was missing for the 20-year-old was a goal for himself at the sold-out VELTINS-Arena – and he actually missed a good chance for his maiden first-team goal just before the break.

Miron Muslic: I’m extremely proud of the team

In his first competitive game in charge of FC Schalke 04, Miron Muslic recorded his first victory on Friday night (1/8) against Hertha BSC. Following the 2-1 win to start the season, the 42-year-old discussed the game together with Hertha coach Stefan Leitl at the post-match press conference. Schalke 04 sign Hasan Kurucay

FC Schalke 04 have strengthened their defence with the signing of Hasan Kurucay, who joins the Royal Blues on a contract running until 30th June 2027. The 27-year-old spent last season playing for Belgian top-flight side OH Leuven, having previously spent a year and a half at Eintracht Braunschweig. He will wear the number 4 shirt at Schalke.
