Rabbi Matondo: I want to learn new things everyday

Rabbi Matondo has been a Royal Blue for two weeks now. He already made some good impressions during his first few days at his new club. “I enjoy every single minute, every training session,” said the Wales international, who had been training with the youth team at Man City and regularly under Pep Guardiola in the first team.

Bastian Oczipka: Clear goal but tough opponent

The 3-1 defeat is still on the mind of Bastian Oczipka. Nevertheless, he wants to move forward. “We have to learn from the game,” said the 30-year-old in an interview with Schalke TV. “We only have ourselves to blame for the defeat. Their goals came from our mistakes.” These errors will have to be avoided on Saturday (16/02/19) when Schalke 04 take on SC Freiburg.

Head coach Domenico Tedesco knows how difficult the game will be, but believes there will be chances for his team to take something back with them from Bavaria.

Setback but not a step back

Convincing performance, but not without disappointments

Seldom this season have the Schalke fans’ feelings been toyed with as much as during the 2-2 draw on Friday (25.01) with Hertha BSC. Schalke led twice, but both times Hertha had an answer. A good game, but unfortunately three players were lost due to injury. As a result a lot of the reactions from the players is a bit deflated.

Mark Uth: We have to continue to work hard!

FC Schalke 04 secured a valuable point away from home in a 2-2 draw against Hertha BSC. Royal Blues head coach Domenico Tedesco and goal scorer Mark Uth both believed the visitors had enough chances to win the match. However, both were satisfied with a point from a contested match in Berlin. Here is the post-match reaction.

Domenico Tedesco: New dynamism, new self-confidence

FC Schalke 04 will face Hertha BSC on Friday 25th January (20:30 CET) at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. “We simply want to get more points in the second half of the season than we did in the first half. We started well against Wolfsburg and we want to continue in Berlin,” said head coach Domenico Tedesco before the game.

Tactical change, improved performance – and then a deserved win

After a tactical change the side’s performance improved greatly. After an average first-half display, the Royal Blues stepped up in the second half to beat VfL Wolfsburg 2-1. Switching to a back five from a back four gave the Royal Blues more control of the game and they were more dangerous too. “The second half was a completely different story,” stated head coach Domenico Tedesco.

Daniel Caligiuri: The whole team won today's game, not me!

Domenico Tedesco was satisfied with the win, but also explained how he wasn’t happy with the first-half performance. VfL coach Bruno Labbadia felt that his side should have taken something from the game. Daniel Caligiuri, who scored twice, and Mark Uth, who returned from a long-term injury, also gave their thoughts.

One lucky moment, two accounts opened, three important points

It was the 48th minute in the Mercedes-Benz Arena and all the Schalke fans in the stadium could take a big sigh of relief. After a mistake by Ralf Fährmann, Nicolas Gonzalez had the opportunity to place the ball into an empty net, but instead only managed to hit the post. "I just thought: please, please let us have some luck," said Christian Heidel.
