After the 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg on Wednesday night (3 February), there is a mixture of disappointment and hopefulness in the Royal Blue camp. Naturally, the players and staff are disappointed about being knocked out of the DFB-Pokal, but the gutsy performance against Wolfsburg has given them hope for the ongoing relegation battle. Former ski jumper and TV expert Sven Hannawald conducted Sunday’s draw (03/01), with Schalke being drawn to face VfL Wolfsburg in the next round. The match will be played on 2nd or 3rd of February, with exact timings to be announced in the coming days.

The German Football Association (DFB) have accepted a request by SSV Ulm 1846 to forfeit their right to host the DFB-Pokal fixture against FC Schalke 04. The second-round tie with the fourth-division side will thus take place in the VELTINS-Arena on Tuesday 22nd December (18:30 CET).
