S04 to face VfR Aalen in DFB-Pokal first round

The first round of the 2024/25 DFB-Pokal has been drawn, with FC Schalke 04 pitted against Oberliga side VfR Aalen.

It won’t be the first time that the sides have met in the cup, with the Royal Blues have already travelled to Baden-Württemberg in the first round back in 2010/11. S04 were 2-1 winners in what was the start of the club’s 2011 DFB-Pokal-winning campaign.

The first round will predominantly be played between 16th and 19th August, although there are two exceptions: As the DFL-Supercup will take place on 17th August, the cup fixtures for league and cup winners Bayer Leverkusen and Bundesliga runners-up VfB Stuttgart won’t be played until 27th and 28th August.

S04 knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in extra time

It took 120 minutes to find a winner between FC Schalke 04 and FC St. Pauli on Tuesday night (31/10) in the DFB-Pokal. The hosts eventually booked their place in the next round thanks to Johannes Eggestein’s goal in extra time.

Karel Geraerts: I enjoy knockout competitions

FC Schalke 04 travel to Hamburg to face FC St. Pauli in the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday evening (31/10, 18:00 CET). The team will be looking to use the momentum from last weekend's 3-2 win against Hannover 96 to secure a spot in the round of 16. "We want to win and reach the next round," said head coach Karel Geraerts ahead of the clash with the current Bundesliga 2 league leaders.
