Rouven Schröder: We need to be a community – and we need to act like one

Rouven Schröder has eagerly stepped up to his new job as FC Schalke 04 sporting director with a lot of tasks to complete. On Friday (28 May), the 45-year-old was officially introduced at a press conference. "I’m very proud. My time here has already been so intense, with so much Schalke, that makes me really want to get to work," said Schröder, who is no stranger to the Ruhr region.

Schalke to return to Mittersill for pre-season training camp

The Royal Blues will begin pre-season training on 17th June. Head coach Dimitrios Grammozis and his team will have six weeks to prepare for the start of the 2021/22 Bundesliga 2 season (23rd-25th July).

Atsuto Uchida to become Schalke’s club ambassador

FC Schalke 04 have appointed Atsuto Uchida as an official club ambassador. In his new role, the long-standing defender and fan favorite will help to build bridges between the club and the Japanese football and also promote Schalke’s name, traditions and values throughout the world.

S04 and GAZPROM release a short documentary on the Knappenschmiede

FC Schalke 04 and main club sponsor GAZPROM have released a short documentary about the club’s famous academy, the Knappenschmiede. The film follows the staff and players closely as they go about their day-to-day business. Five episodes will be available to watch on the Royal Blues’ official YouTube channel, with the first already online.

Hertha game can go ahead

Tuesday’s PCR tests (11 May) confirmed a further positive coronavirus case in the FC Schalke 04 first team. The player in question is now in strict isolation within the quarantine training camp. He is now the third player with a positive coronavirus test result. The other two players were already isolating at home before the quarantine training camp began. Four other players, who were categorised in ‘contact group one’ are also under quarantine.

Two positive PCR tests – Hertha game not currently at risk

Monday’s (10.05) PCR testing resulted in two positive covid-19 cases among the FC Schalke 04 first team squad. This includes yesterday’s suspected case following a round of quick testing. Both players are currently self-isolating at home and are asymptomatic, while another affected person has had no contact with first team members since last Friday (7th May).

Daily quick tests return a positive Covid-19 infection

As part of the daily quick tests on Monday (10/5), one player tested positive for Covid-19. That player in question immediately started self-isolating at home.

Knappenschmiede International gets creative with pandemic training programs

Downtime is one of the most important opportunities for an athlete to work on their skills and weaknesses. In line with the Knappenschmiede International programs, Schalke 04 was tasked with implementing creative solutions to make use of unusual times in an efficient, yet engaging, manner.

First team start training again

FC Schalke 04 returned to team training on Wednesday (28/4). After two Covid-19 tests came back positive on Monday’s PCR tests, the tests on Tuesday came back negative for those two people.

Further Covid-19 testing: Update on test results

After two cases of Covid-19 were detected in a round of PCR tests carried out on Monday (26/04), FC Schalke 04 carried out a further test among the professional squad on Tuesday. This returned exclusively negative results, including in the two individuals who had previously tested positive (a player as well as a member of the functional team).

Two positive Covid-19 cases within first-team set-up

The first round of PCR testing on Monday (26/4) returned two positive Covid-19 cases. The individuals affected are a player as well as a member of FC Schalke 04's first-team backroom staff. Both individuals have been in quarantine since receiving news of the test results, and are fortunately asymptomatic.

An update from S04 following the events of Wednesday morning

The players and backroom staff of FC Schalke 04 returned to the first-team performance centre on Friday (23/4) for the first time since the horrific events that took place last Wednesday (21/4). On behalf of the club, Peter Knäbel, board member for sport and communication, apologised to all those affected and repeated the offer to provide the players and staff with all the support needed to cope with the incident.
