Performance tests at medicos.AufSchalke – new signing Simon Terodde eager to get started

After a short summer break, the Schalke 04 first-team players have begun preparations for the upcoming season. After a round of Covid-19 tests, the players underwent various individual performance tests at medicos.AufSchalke. The team were able to greet several new faces during the tests, including Simon Terodde.

„I’m looking forward to being at Schalke,“ said Terodde, who scored 24 goals for Hamburger SV last season. Following his move to the Royal Blues, the striker is looking to start a new, meaningful chapter in his career. „Even as a young boy I was already interested in football. I was born near Borken and grew up there. When a club like Schalke 04 comes knocking, then it’s a great honour. I really wanted to seize this opportunity and want to try to help the team,“ he said.

Good discussions with management

Terodde shared that he felt the value the club saw in him right from his first discussions with management. „I immediately felt that the entire club really wanted to sign me. That’s why it wasn’t a tough decision for me in the end,“ said the 33-year-old.

During the performance tests at medicos.AufSchalke, the striker proved that he has been preparing well for his first days in Gelsenkirchen. Terodde was pushed hard during a series of intense performance tests, held in Europe’s largest ambulatory health and rehabilitation centre. According to Dr. Patrick Ingelfinger, head of Schalke’s medical department and the team doctor, Terodde and his teammates followed the individual workout programs provided by the club over the summer break. „The lads that I’ve seen so far have all been extremely diligent and have arrive in Gelsenkirchen in top condition.“

Top conditions at medicos.AufSchalke

The examinations for Terodde and the rest of the team consisted of two parts – an orthopedic and internal. Dr. Ingelfinger, together with Dr. Stefan Middel from medicos.AufSchalke and Dr. Peter Franitza, checked whether all the players would be fit and ready to rake on the workload for the first training session on the pitch. For these tests, the team were in the best conditions; a new sports medicine institute has recently been set up at Haus 2 at medicos.AufSchalke, which has taken expertise in the areas of rehabilitation, prevention and sport to a new level once again.

Dr. Middel explains, „In recent weeks, we have purchased some new equipment, for example, new facilities for jumping and strength tests.“ Dr. Middel says this will enable medicos.AufSchalke, which has been a sponsor of the club since its foundation in 2006, „to make a small contribution towards a successful season – and we will do that well and  very thoroughly.“
