FC Schalke 04 lost 2-1 to newly-promoted Premier League side Norwich City in their fourth friendly of the pre-season in the Lotter FRIMO stadium.


David Wagner: Putting what we’ve practiced into action against Norwich

FC Schalke 04 are set for their first big opponent in Friday night’s (18:30 CEST) friendly. The Royal Blues will face recently promoted Premier League side Norwich City in the FRIMO Stadion in Lotte. “They are a really good English club, one that always moves between the Premier League and the Championship,” head coach David Wagner said about the upcoming opponent.

The players can already feel the effects of the strenuous training sessions—something they see as a positive.


Burgstaller grabs six as Schalke win 20-1

FC Schalke 04 ran out worthy winners on Friday evening, beating Bottrops Town 20-1 in a convincing display. In their second friendly of the 2019/20 season in the Bottroper Jahnstadion, Guido Burgstaller scored six and Benito Raman got his first goals for the club.


Wagner reign begins with 3-1 win in Oberhausen

FC Schalke 04 got off to a winning start on David Wagner's first game in charge on Sunday (7.7). Rabbi Matondo and an Ahmed Kutucu brace proved the difference for Schalke, who debuted the new home shirt against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. New signing Benito Raman also made his first appearance in Royal Blue.


Satisfied with the training camp in Benidorm

Getting match practice is more important than the result in a friendly, and Schalke got plenty of it in their 2-2 draw against KRC Genk on Friday (11th January). “70% of the training camp was focussed on attacking. The good thing is that you could see that, regardless of the result against Genk. The boys did really well,” said Domenico Tedesco.


Mark Uth: I feel good again after my injury

Two months to the day after Mark Uth played his last game in a S04 shirt before picking up his injury, he is not set to make his comeback on Friday in a friendly against KRC Genk. “I feel good, everything is going to plan and I feel like I did before my injury,” said the Germany national team player.


Alessandro Schöpf: “Pushing ourselves to the limit in training”

Alessandro Schöpf is used to rolling out the miles during matches. In Benidorm, strenuous running and sprinting exercises are of course part of training, but for the 24-year-old this is not a problem. "It's intense, but that's to be expected in the training camp. We want our fitness levels to be top for the second half if the season.”


Benjamin Stambouli: Pass my experience on to the younger players

There is no mistaking Benjamin Stambouli in Benidorm. The defender is constantly praising his teammates, getting excited about good play and getting annoyed at mistakes. The Frenchman is now considered an experience team leader – exactly what he likes.


Guido Burgstaller working on his comeback

Guido Burgstaller has travelled to the training camp in Benidorm, but has not been in the thick of it, instead spending his time in the weights room and doing fitness sessions. While his teammates prepare for the second half of the season, the attacker is preparing and working on his comeback. In a break from training, the 29-year-old spoke about his journey back to full fitness.


Ralf Fährmann: “Time to make amends from the first half of the season”

Schalke 04 have already completed more than half of their training sessions in Benidorm. Club captain Ralf Fährmann is more than satisfied with his teammates’ work over the past few days in Spain. “We have worked with high concentration levels,” the goalkeeper said. “They are very tough sessions but we are on the right track.”


Matija Nastasic: We are on the right path

Matija Nastasic describes the training camp in Benidorm as a new start to a season which has struggled to get going so far. “The first half of the season is over now. The results are there in black and white,” said the Serbian international. “We now have to forget what has happened and start all over again.”

With a 1-0 win over SCO Angers and a day for reflection after the game, the Royal Blue’s training camp draws to a close on Monday 6th August. Domenico Tedesco has drawn a positive conclusion after just over a week in Hohe Tauern. “The days were very intense but we can go home with a really positive outlook“, said the coach.


Alessandro Schöpf: This mentality is hugely important

Alessandro Schöpf is happy with how the Royal Blues’ training camp has gone so far. What’s more, S04’s base in Mittersill has allowed the midfielder to spend more time in his homeland: “For an Austrian, there’s nothing more beautiful than training in the mountains,” admits the 24 year old.
