David Wagner: I liked our intensity

David Wagner is pleased about how the training camp in Herzlake is going, including the team’s performance in the first friendly of the season against VfL Osnabrück. “During this first week we have managed to put into practice everything that we discussed beforehand,” said the head coach. As the camp comes to an end, the players have had to continue to push themselves as far as possible. “The final session with Werner Leuthard was once again very tough,” said the 48 year old.

Day four in Herzlake: Pushing the limits one more time

On Monday (August 10th), the squad worked up a sweat to end the short training camp in Herzlake. The training plan for the day simply told the players to bring their running trainers. Schalke’s new head of performance, Werner Leuthard, had marked out a 500m course to be completed in small groups. Players ran the course ten times each, and always at a high intensity.

Day three in Herzlake: A comeback after 287 days out

Benjamin Stambouli is back. The defender celebrated his comeback on Sunday (August 9th) during the 5-1 friendly win against VfL Osnabrück. It was a first appearance in 287 days for the Frenchman, who extended his contract until 2023 just a few days ago. The defender was forced to spend months on the sidelines after injuring his foot during the derby last October.

David Wagner: It was a typical friendly game

On Tuesday (07/01), five days after returning to training, FC Schalke 04 had a first friendly game to prepare for the second half of the season. The fact that the team lost 1-0 to Belgian first division side Sint-Truidense V.V. is not something head coach David Wagner wants to focus on too much.
