Alessandro Schöpf: We can’t let this get us down

The derby defeat has been processed, and now it’s time for full concentration in the showdown against Lokomotiv Moscow. “The Champions League is a different competition – and we’re well placed”, says Alessandro Schöpf ahead of Tuesday’s game in the VELTINS-Arena. He goes on: “It’s a good feeling to know that we’ve qualified to the last 16 before we even kickoff. Still, we want to beat Lokomotiv as well, to finish the group stage on a high.”

The midfielder highlights how Schalke definitely won’t be giving Lokomotiv any leeway. “It’s not just any game – it’s a Champions League match. Every game in this competition is something quite special.”

The clash with the Russian champions also presents the opportunity to find some strength and self-confidence for upcoming Bundesliga games against Augsburg, Leverkusen and Stuttgart, after defeat in the Revierderby. “A win tomorrow would give us some momentum”, says Schöpf.

It’s tough that not a lot has changed with regards to the injury situation, with practically the whole front line being on the sidelines. “We can’t let this get us down”, explains Schöpf. “The lads who are fit will give it a go.”
