“I’ve waited a long time for this feeling”

Steven Skrzybski has spent many evenings watching Schalke in the Champions League as a fan. On Wednesday (24/10), the attacker was able to play a part in the goalless draw with Galatasaray – his first game for Schalke.

“It was a great feeling, which I have waited a long time for,” said the 25-year-old, who made his first appearance of the season in Turkey after his muscle injury. “I’m relieved and also happy that I’ve finally made my competitive debut for Schalke.”

The atmosphere was incredible.

Skrzybski very nearly scored his first goal on his debut, but couldn’t beat Galatasaray keeper Fernando Muslera with his shot. Nevertheless, the striker will always remember his short debut, having been subbed on in the 77th minute. “The atmosphere was incredible”, he confirmed. The noise didn’t get to the team though. “We were strong at the back and had our chances to win the game, but unfortunately didn’t take our chances. Overall I think we need to be a bit more clinical.”
