Jochen Schneider: We can’t simply return to day-to-day business
FC Schalke 04 sporting director Jochen Schneider was anything but pleased with his side’s performance on Tuesday evening as the Royal Blues fell to a 7-0 defeat away against Manchester City. Ahead of the team’s return flight to Germany, the sporting director describe Tuesday night as a “disappointing evening for the entire club. I feel sorry most of all for the fans who have travelled all the way to England to support us in the stadium. We really let them down.”
There is no shame in losing to Manchester City. “They are one of the best teams in the world. However, you cannot approach a match in the manner we did regardless of the opponent,” said Schneider. The 48 year-old spoke with Royal Blues head coach Domenico Tedesco this morning. “We spoke in great detail about the match and the overall club situation,” reported the sporting director.
The fact is the club hierarchy cannot simply return to day-to-day activities after such a disappointing result. “We will use the forthcoming hours to discuss the current state of affairs and overall club situation,” said Schneider ahead of the return flight from Manchester. A club statement regarding the outcome of these discussions will be released on Thursday (14th March). Schneider concludes: “Unfortunately, the situation is what it is. We have to accept it and make the right decisions for FC Schalke 04.”
