Miron Muslic: We’re already looking ahead again

After Schalke’s defeat in the DFB-Pokal away to SV Darmstadt 98 on Wednesday (29/10), Miron Muslic, Janik Bachmann and Ron Schallenberg reflected on the match, which was overshadowed by a medical emergency in the stands.

Miron Muslic:

Congratulations to Darmstadt, they did a good job tonight. We lacked a lot of the things we’ve shown week in, week out recently. If you don’t hit 100 percent, it’s not enough in the cup or in the league – you get punished. But I know the character of this group, and we will respond.

We’re already looking ahead again. The boys have been working so hard for months and performing at a high level, picking up a lot of points in the league. That wasn’t a coincidence, those points were hard-earned. We’ll get straight back into that mode on Saturday.

We all hope the person who required medical treatment is doing well again.

Florian Kohfeldt:

We put in a very good performance today. After Friday’s game, we wanted to be braver and made a few tweaks to our system. The lads played with real purpose and tempo. We fully deserved to reach the next round.

Janik Bachmann:

It’s a slip-up, but one we need to analyse properly. We didn’t do a number of things well – we lacked intensity and compactness, didn’t defend with enough aggression and our pressing wasn’t good enough. Now we have to prepare as well as we can for Karlsruhe.

Ron Schallenberg:

We didn’t get stuck in and weren’t aggressive enough. That kept opening spaces for Darmstadt to release their quick forwards. We clearly didn’t reach our usual level today, and the result reflects that. We have the chance to put it right in Karlsruhe in a few days. I also want to send my best wishes to the supporter who needed medical treatment.
