DFB-Pokal: S04 travel to Hallescher FC in the first round

Schalke’s first competitive opponents of the 2026/27 season have been confirmed, with the Royal Blues set to visit Hallescher FC in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The side finished fourth in the fourth tier last season, qualifying for the competition as Saxony-Anhalt regional cup winners. Halle secured their place by beating Germania Halberstadt 4-0 in the final.

Deniz Aytekin to draw Schalke’s DFB-Pokal first-round opponent

The 32 ties in the first round of the 2026/27 DFB-Pokal will be drawn on Saturday (6/6) from 18:00 CEST. Former DFB referee Deniz Aytekin, who only recently brought his career as a match official to an end, will conduct the draw. During the broadcast, the 47-year-old will determine FC Schalke 04’s first competitive opponent of the new season. The possible challengers from the unseeded pot were finalised last weekend.

FC Schalke 04 will travel to fellow 2. Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The draw was conducted at the German Football Museum on Sunday (31/8). The match will be played on 28th or 29th October. Former referee Dr. Felix Brych carried out the draw.

FC Lokomotive Leipzig snuck into the bottom left corner and ultimately secured the victory required to take FC Schalke 04 into the second round of the DFB-Pokal. “I’m so happy to have scored the winning goal and that I was able to help the team in this way,” said the Frenchman, who was brought on in the 80th minute of the game at the Bruno-Plache-Stadion and went on to break the deadlock.
