S04 to face 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in first round of DFB-Pokal

FC Schalke 04 have been drawn against 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in the first round of the 2025/26 DFB-Pokal season. Their upcoming opponents qualified for the competition after winning the Saxony Cup. The first-round draw took place at the German Football Museum on Sunday (15/6) and was conducted by sprinter Owen Ansah.

Lokomotive Leipzig and the Royal Blues will meet for the first time in competitive action. Schalke faced predecessor club VfB Leipzig four times across the cup (W1, L1) and the Bundesliga (W1, D1), most recently winning 1-0 away from home in the second round of the 1995/1996 DFB-Pokal.

“Lok Leipzig gave a strong showing over the past season, finishing as fourth-division champions and regional cup winners in Saxony. They narrowly missed out on promotion to the third division, falling short in the play-offs. Therefore, we are up against an ambitious fourth-tier side. We possess the clear aim to win in Leipzig and advance to the second round,” explained director of professional football Youri Mulder.

The first round of cup matches will be played on the weekend of 15th to 18th August. The dates and timings of all 32 fixtures will be confirmed by the DFB over the course of the next weeks. Due to the Supercup, which will be played on that same weekend, FC Bayern München (Bundesliga champions) and VfB Stuttgart (defending DFB-Pokal winners) will only play their respective first-round ties on either 26th or 27th August.
