Dimitrios Grammozis: We started badly

Head coach Dimitrios Grammozis and striker Marius Bülter were both disappointed after Schalke were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday evening (26/10). TSV 1860 München coach Michael Köllner, on other hand, was delighted with his side’s 1-0 victory.

Dimitrios Grammozis:

I’m disappointed, we could have taken more from that game. We started pretty badly and played into their hands. We knew that they would put us under pressure from the first minute, which is why we wanted to play a few long balls to stop them pressing us as much. We didn’t do that well in the opening stages though. We dallied on the ball once and the goal came from that.

We tried all we could after going behind. The lads showed great character despite playing with 10 men, and we had some good chances. We were actually more dominant with 10 men than with 11 at times. 1860 defended with lots of passion. We were lacking a bit of luck with our chances, the ball just didn’t want to go in today. Ralf Fährmann stopped a few dangerous counterattacks at the other hand. I would like to congratulate Michael Köllner and his team on reaching the round of 16. We will dust ourselves down quickly before Heidenheim in three days time.

Michael Köllner:

It was a tough game today. My team fought brilliantly in front of a sold-out stadium. I think we deserved to win the game. We weren’t lucky to score, we had lots of chances across the 90 minutes. The lads ran as hard as they could today, so the Man of the Match should be the whole team. It was a real team performance. I’d like to wish FC Schalke 04 all the best for the rest of the season.

Marius Bülter:

I’m really disappointed. We simply didn’t play well. We lost the game during the opening stages. The first quarter of an hour was really poor from us. After that, we fought back and still had chances after the red card. We tried all we could to equalise, but couldn’t manage it.
