Eintracht Braunschweig away in the first round of the DFB-Pokal

FC Schalke 04 have been drawn against fellow second-division side Eintracht Braunschweig in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The draw was made on Sunday (18/6) at the German Football Museum by pole vaulter Sarah Vogel.

Braunschweig were one of the unseeded teams in the draw after finishing 15th in the 2. Bundesliga last season. They therefore get to play at home.

“There are definitely easier draws than Eintracht Braunschweig. They are in our league and are starting the season with a new coach,” said Thomas Reis. “You can face anybody in this competition. We will be up for the challenge and give our best.”

30 of the 32 first-round ties will be played between 11th and 14th August 2023 – exact dates and times will be announced in the coming weeks. The two exceptions are the games involving Bundesliga winners FC Bayern and reigning Pokal holders RB Leipzig, who will face off in the Supercup on the weekend of the first round. They will play their ties at a later date.
