Dominick Drexler: We have to get more stuck in and start performing

Head coach Frank Kramer and goalscorer Dominick Drexler spoke to the press after the 5-1 DFB-Pokal defeat to Hoffenheim on Tuesday (18/10).

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - FC Schalke 04

Frank Kramer:

We didn’t perform how we should or how we wanted to today. We went behind really early on because we weren’t making any tackles. I’m almost speechless with how we performed. TSG took advantage brilliantly. I can’t explain our lack of fight. You will get torn apart if you play like that. We have to get our heads up quickly and play a lot better than this.

André Breitenreiter:

That was a really good performance by my team. They did almost everything we wanted them to. Our aims were to keep our opponents well away from our goal and to press them intensely. We forced them into mistakes and got chances this way – we then scored some really nice goals. I’ve not got much to criticise tonight.

Dominick Drexler:

Conceding two early goals in Hoffenheim will always make life really difficult. We have to start performing now and get more stuck in, that’s our biggest issue. We have to speak honestly about things otherwise they won’t improve. The fans have been behind us all season. We’ve suffered a few heavy defeats now but they are still there and still loud, even after a 5-1 defeat in the Pokal. Where we are at the end of the season is ultimately what counts. Things can improve really quickly in football and we hope they can for us now.
