Huub Stevens: Every win helps in our situation

Interim coach Huub Stevens was pleased his side reached the round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal with a 3-1 win over Ulm. The Dutchman spoke to the press after the game, along with SSV coach Holger Bachthaler, goalscorer Benito Raman and Timo Becker.

Huub Stevens:

It was important that we got a win again. Our aim was to reach the next round and we’ve done just that. We said before the game that we would need to get at them in the second half when they became tired. We expected that we’d get more space and that was also the case. Ulm were aggressive in the first half and made life difficult for us. Ultimately, I think it was a good performance by our team. Every win helps in our situation.

Holger Bachthaler:

My team played well today. We put in a real shift and did everything we had set out to do before the game. I think we were the more dangerous side the first half, so it was disappointing go in behind at the break. We have to say that Schalke were incredibly efficient across the whole game. I’m pleased with my lads and I think we did SSV Ulm 1846 proud.

Benito Raman:

It was important that we ended this tough year with a win. I’m pleased that I was able to help the team by scoring twice. Now, we want to pick up more wins in the coming games. We need victories to stay in the Bundesliga.

Timo Becker:

A win is always good – especially in a situation like ours. We played well today and scored three goals, which will give us some confidence. We will try to pick up as many points as possible in 2021 and we definitely won’t give up.
