Marius Bülter: We did really well after the break
Dimitrios Grammozis and his opposite number Marcel Yahyaijan spoke to the media after Schalke’s 4-1 cup win at Villingen on Sunday (8/8). Ralf Fährmann and Man of the Match Marius Bülter also gave their thoughts on the game.
First of all, I’d like to congratulate my players on reaching the second round. FC 08 Villingen showed that they’re a good team today. They made things really difficult for us during parts of the game. Simon Terodde could have made it 2-0 after Marius Bülter gave us the lead, but instead we conceded an equaliser at the other end. We just said at half time that we need to stay calm and carry on playing our own game. Our two quick-fire goals straight after the break were vital and helped to secure the win. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the stadium today, it was a lot of fun. I would like to thank Villingen, who gave us a warm welcome. I wish Marcel Yahyaijan’s side all the best for the rest of the season.
Congratulations to FC Schalke 04 and Dimitrios Grammozis on reaching the next round. I have mixed feelings after today’s game. On the one hand, I’m proud of my team. We played with confidence, bravery and put our plan into action. Things went really well in patches. However, I’m a competitor and even if it wasn’t very realistic, I had hopes of causing an upset. It may have been a lot closer if we hadn’t conceded two quick goals after the break. Having said that, Simon Terodde could have made it 2-0 early on.
The first round is never easy. Overall, we deservedly won today – mainly because of the second half. Every goal does us the world of good. I was really happy to have the fans back today. It was great to feel their support from the stands.
We did well overall today. Villingen caused us problems now and again in the first half, and their equaliser set us back somewhat. We also made things difficult for ourselves at times. Nevertheless, after the break we did really well I thought. The support from our fans was amazing. I’m already looking forward to Friday’s home game against Aue.
