S04 to face 1860 Munich in DFB-Pokal second round

The Royal Blues will travel to take on 1860 Munich in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The draw was made on Sunday evening (29/08), with the second-round fixtures to take place on the 26th and 27th October. Exact dates and kick-off times are yet to be confirmed.

1860 overcame second-division SV Darmstadt 98 5-4 on penalties in the first round, while S04 defeated FC 08 Villingen 4-1.

„We are looking forward to the match against 1860 Munich and travelling to the Grünwalder Straße. We’re up against a strong third-division team that has ambitions of reaching the 2nd Bundesliga. There’s no doubt that it’ll be a challenging task, but as a team in a higher division, the aim is to reach the next round,“ said sporting director Rouven Schröder on the draw.

Schalke 04 and 1860 Munich have met six times in the history of the DFB-Pokal. Schalke 04 have won on four occasions, while ‚Die Löwen‘ have won twice. The last time the two teams met was in the round of 16 in the 2009/2010 season, when a strike from Rafinha and a brace from Benedikt Höwedes saw Schalke record a 3-0 victory.
