S04 to face FC 08 Villingen in DFB-Pokal first round

The Royal Blues will face fifth-division side FC 08 Villingen in the first round of the 2021/22 DFB-Pokal. The first-round draw was conducted by former Bundesliga player Thomas Broich on Sunday evening (4/7)

The match will take place the weekend of 6th to 9th August, with the exact date and timing of the fixture still to be announced.

„We are looking forward to facing FC 08 Villingen. As the underdogs, our hosts will be highly motivated and will give it their all in front of their fans. We will prepare well for the game and will not underestimate our opponents. Our aim is to advance to the next round,“ said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Both clubs have met before. In the first round of the 2016/17 DFB-Pokal, Schalke beat the South Baden cup winners 4-1, thanks to goals from Dennis Aogo, Breel Embolo, Johannes Geis and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
