S04 to face Fortuna Düsseldorf at home in the DFB-Pokal

FC Schalke 04 will face Fortuna Düsseldorf in the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal. Blind footballer Serdal Celebi, who scored "Goal of the Month" in August, made the draw, giving Schalke a home game.

The draw took place in the German Football Museum on Sunday (4/11). The match is yet to be scheduled, but will take place either on February 5th or the 6th.

Eight DFB-Pokal meeting with Fortuna

Fortuna Düsseldorf defeated TuS Rot-Weiß Koblenz in the first round, before overcoming SSV Ulm 5-1 in round 2.

Schalke and Düsseldorf have met seven times in the history of the DFB-Pokal. The Royal Blues have won three, Fortuna two and two have finished as a draw. The last meeting was back in 1983, when S04 won 3-0. The two sides also met on the way to Schalke’s cup-winning season in 1972. The first leg finished 1-1, but Schalke won 2-1 at home to progress.

Both sides have already met this season – Domenico Tedesco’s men got the better of Fortuna 2-0 on October 6th in the Bundesliga. Weston McKennie and Guido Burgstaller got the goals in the Merkur Spiel-Arena.

FC Schalke 04 failed to reach the round of 16 in this season’s DFB-Pokal after losing 1-0 away to TSV 1860 München on Tuesday night (26/10). The only goal of the game was scored in the fifth minute by Stefan Lex in front of 15,000 fans at the sold out Stadion an der Grünwalder Straße. S04 played most of the second half with ten men, with Malick Thiaw sent off for a professional foul in the 48th minute.
