S04 head to Schweinfurt for DFB-Pokal first round

The Knappen are heading to Bavaria for their first game of the 2018/19 season. In the first round of the DFB-Pokal, Domenico Tedesco’s side face 1. FC Schweinfurt as drawn on Friday evening.

The exact dates for the first-round DFB-Pokal are yet to be decided with games taking place between August 17th and 20th.

“Schweinfurt 05 – straight away I thought of the big stadium with the running track as we played there many times with Mainz 05,” said Christian Heidel. We’ve been drawn against an ambitious fourth division side who we shouldn’t take lightly. Of course, we want to progress.” Schweinfurt play their home games in the Willy Sachs Stadion which can hosts roughly 15,000. Schweinfurt qualified for the DFB-Pokal by winning the Regional Bavaria Cup. Last season, Schweinfurt finished third behind Bayern Munich II and TSV 1860 München in the Bavaria Regional League.

It’s been thirty years since both clubs faced one another. In the 1990-91 season, the Royal Blues faced the 05ers in the Bundesliga 2 where Schalke won both games.
