S04 to invite key workers to home games

“Thank you!” will be FC Schalke 04’s simple but important motto for the opening two home games of the season. After authorities in Gelsenkirchen granted permission for 300 spectators to attend competitive games at the VELTINS-Arena, similar to the pre-season friendlies at the Parkstadion, the Royal Blues are set to make a special gesture.

S04 are inviting workers from hospitals, retirement homes, and other essential jobs to Sunday’s cup game against 1. FC Schweinfurt (13th September), and the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen (26th September).

Through this gesture, FC Schalke 04 would like to express the club’s gratitude to key workers for their invaluable dedication throughout the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

It is important for the club to send a message of solidarity and thanks to the people who have carried out such important work during these unprecedented times.

Alexander Jobst

Alexander Jobst, S04’s director of marketing, sales and organisation, said: “It is important for the club to send a message of solidarity and thanks to the people who have carried out such important work during these unprecedented times. The tireless, unselfish and indispensable commitment of these people is exemplary for us, not only during this pandemic.”

Some of the free tickets will be allocated to initiatives that support local organisations in Gelsenkirchen. Others will be made available for people who have gone above and beyond to help other people in their free time over the past few months. The club will call for applications on its social media channels.

The Royal Blues will also make some tickets available for free to club staff for the cup game against the Bavarian Regionalliga side.

S04 will provide more detailed information about the procedure and the allocation of tickets for future home games in due course.
