Suat Serdar: We can only do it together

Suat Serdar played a key part in booking the Royal Blues’ place in the DFB-Pokal round of 16 with his stunning opener against SSV Ulm 1846 on Tuesday (22/12). “I struck the ball well and it was almost perfect,” says the Germany international, describing his shot from 20 metres that flew into the top right corner.

The 23-year-old explains that it wasn’t easy in the first half. “We had a few problems before the break, but that’s not unusual in a cup game. I think my goal gave the side confidence for the rest of the game,” says Serdar, adding that the Royal Blues deserved the victory for their second-half performance.

I believe in us and I’m convinced that we can start to get some results.

The midfielder hopes that the 3-1 win will give the team some more confidence. “We have a good side. We showed that in the first half of last season,” he says. The task in the new year is to show that on the pitch. “We know the situation we’re in and we know that we need to get as many points as possible. I believe in us and I’m convinced that we can start to get some results. But to do that, each individual needs to give 100% every day. We can only do it together.”

Serdar continues: “My clear aim is to get points in the first game of the new year in Berlin and to help the side get out of the current situation with good performances. We need to use the short Christmas break to switch off for a couple of days and then come back and give it our all.”
