Sunday’s DFB-Pokal match against Schweinfurt cancelled after appeal by Türkgücü München

FC Schalke 04 will not be in DFB-Pokal action on Sunday (13/8). Türkgücü München’s appeal against the Bavarian Football Association’s (BFV) decision to register 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 for the competition was successful with the Munich regional court.

The DFB decided to cancel Sunday’s match after the Munich regional court’s legally binding decision. The DFB will then decide when the new fixture will be played once the case has been finally settled.

“It’s really frustrating that our DFB-Pokal game on Sunday has been cancelled,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. “If the Munich regional court decides that Türkgücü München legally deserve to play in the DFB-Pokal, then we shall respect this decision and we will look forward to facing Türkgücü München – whenever that game will be. The same thing of course applies to us playing Schweinfurt. Ultimately, we are disappointed with the way the Bavarian FA have dealt with this, as they clearly were not capable of deciding who legally deserves to enter the DFB-Pokal.”

The best amateur team from Bavaria enters the first-round draw of the DFB-Pokal. In July, the Bavarian FA had registered Schweinfurt as this side, as they were top of the Regionalliga Bayern, which was stopped due the coronavirus pandemic and is scheduled to resume on 26th September.

Türkgücü München were top of the Regionalliga Bayern when the season was halted and were subsequently promoted to the 3. Liga. The Bavarian FA then chose to remove all of their results from the Regionalliga Bayern season upon resumption of the league.
