Adrian Gantenbein looks to gain more game time in Lustenau

Schalke’s second friendly during the international break is against Austria Lustenau (3/10). It’s an important match for Adrian Gantenbein even though there will be no points up for grabs against the Austrian first-division side. The game at the SUN MINIMEAL Arena will offer the right-back the opportunity to gain more game time after coming back from injury.

Adrian Gantenbein goes past an opposition player with the ball at his feet.

The Swiss defender recently played 60 minutes against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, recording an assist in the 5-2 victory. He also played half the match for the U23s in their Regionalliga West fixture against Sportfreunde Lotte a few days prior.

“I’m back to 100% fitness, but I definitely still need to play a match here or there to gather game time again,” said the 25-year-old who had injured his right ankle during a pre-season friendly against Fagiano Okayama in Austria, forcing him to be sidelined for several weeks.

I’m trying to give it my all to prove myself to the head coach.

Gantenbein is positive about how his team have been doing recently: “As a spectator, the past few games have looked really good. They were intense matches.” He hopes to soon be on the pitch in the Bundesliga himself. “For now, I’m the challenger. Everyone wants to play, including me. I’m trying to give it my all to prove myself to the head coach,” explained the 25-year-old. “Every team has two or three players fighting for every position, and that’s the same for mine. It’s totally normal.”
