After five new signings – Alexander Schwolow, Ibrahima Cissé, Tom Krauß, Florent Mollet and Sebastian Polter – made their debut in the 14-0 win over VfB Hüls on Wednesday (29/6), Justin Heekeren got the chance to start in goal in Lohne. Michael Langer, Blendi Idrizi and Marius Bülter came on in the second half for their first minutes in pre-season.

Six goals in the first half

Schalke, sporting their new mint third kit, controlled proceedings right from the first whistle and led after 10 minutes. Ibrahima Cissé played a ball to Simon Terodde, who back-heeled it through to Danny Latza. The S04 captain then beat a defender with some nice skill in the box and curled it home on his left foot. In the 12th minute, Florent Mollet saw his low shot go narrowly wide, before goalkeeper Christoph Bollmann kept out Rodrigo Zalazar’s long-range free-kick (12’). However, the second goal soon came. Danny Latza chipped a ball into the box for Thomas Ouwejan, who crossed first time for Terodde. His shot was saved but Sebastian Polter was at the back post to tap in from a yard out (15’).

The Schalke defence was rarely troubled and that meant the Royal Blues could attack freely in search of further goals.  Frank Kramer’s side subsequently found the net twice inside a few minutes. Firstly, Tom Krauß played a through ball to Polter and he struck it over the onrushing goalkeeper (27’). A minute later, Mollet hammered one home from a tight angle to make it 4-0 (28’). Simon Terodde, who scored six times on Wednesday, got his customary goal in the 34th minute from close range. The final goal of the first period was by captain Latza, who put it through Bollmann’s legs (39’).

Pieringer with the only goal after the break

Just like against Hüls, Frank Kramer completely changed his side for the second half. That didn’t have an impact on the run of play as chances continued to come for the visitors. Malick Thiaw headed wide from an Idrizi cross (52’) with the first opportunity after the break. Marvin Pieringer then made it 7-0 in the 54th minute. A defensive lapse saw the ball end up at Pieringer’s feet via Marius Bülter and Florian Flick, and the striker beat substitute goalkeeper Marko Dedovic. Pieringer then tested out Dedovic in the 68th minute from a shot from the left-hand side. At the other end, Drilon Demaj couldn’t connect properly with Lohne’s first effort the game, striking it over the bar (70’). Kai Westerhoff narrowly hit one over seven minutes later for the hosts.

Despite chances for Pieringer, Marius Bülter (both 83’) and Dong-gyeong Lee towards the end, the score remained at 7-0.
