Miron Muslic: We can take more valuable insights away with us

The Royal Blues ended their final double matchweek of pre-season on Sunday (20/7) with a 3-0 away win over Rot Weiss Ahlen. After the final whistle, both head coaches spoke about the anniversary game at the Wersestadion. Director of professional football Youri Mulder and Taylan Bulut also offered their thoughts on the performance.

Miron Muslic spoke about his side's performance against Rot Weiss Ahlen.

Miron Muslic:

Many thanks to Ahlen for letting us come and play here – it felt good to have a friendly in this charming, old stadium. We were challenged for 90 minutes and are heading into our fifth week of pre-season now. The picture is coming into focus for the boys and for us coaching staff who are going down this path with full conviction. That’s why we play games like this, and today we can take more valuable insights away with us – that’s the most important thing.

RWA head coach Luka Tankulic:

The game today was an interesting challenge, and the anticipation for such a standout matchup was huge in the local area. Schalke brought a few fans along with them and evoked an atmosphere worthy of the second division. For us, the main task was to see what the current state of play is – you gather important insights at this stage in time. That’s why I’m happy that the boys gave it their all over the 90 minutes and played with real courage. We’ve got to speak about conceding from two set-pieces, though.

Youri Mulder:

Yet another clean sheet today. We played a really good side yesterday, who made our lives really difficult. For us, it was a positive that it got harder and harder for the opposition to play against us. We’ve got to keep building on that and continue to internalise the feel for the tactics. It’s all about working gradually, but we’ve laid the foundations and now we’re reaping the benefits. It’s also clear, however, that we need to put in better performances than we did today.

Taylan Bulut:

In the 60 minutes I played today, I noticed that I’m getting fitter and fitter. I’m going to continue working on that, as then it’ll keep getting better and better. But I’m still not back to feeling 100%. The new style of play suits me. It’s more active and I’m more involved in the attack. Whether and where I play is ultimately down to the coach.
