Simon Terodde: The first game for a new club is always something special

Summer signing Simon Terodde hit the ground running for FC Schalke 04 in the first pre-season friendly against PSV Wesel-Lackhausen, scoring a hat-trick in an 8-0 win.

“I think I’ve arrived. Scoring three goals is obviously really nice,” said the 33-year-old striker after his first appearance in Royal Blue. “Playing your first game for a new club is always something special,” commented Terodde, who doesn’t want to read too much into the win over the Landesliga side. “They were a team from the sixth division, so it was good for everyone to get some confidence. It was a good game to kick pre-season off.” Despite a few intensive training sessions, Terodde was pleased with the football the team played.

Ranftl and Ouwejan with assists for Terodde

Terodde scored the second, fourth and fifth goals against Wesel at the Parkstadion. His first was a header from a Reinhold Ranftl cross, while another new signing, Thomas Ouwejan, provided the assists for his other two goals – another header and a left-footed strike after smartly bringing the cross down with chest.

The new-look Schalke side started to get to know one another better in a short training camp in Billerbeck last weekend. “We had a lot of conversations. I shared a room with a young teammate and we got on really well. I think it was an important time for the new signings,” said Terodde.

The foundations for the season will be laid at the training camp.

Two days after the next friendly against Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 (27/6), the Royal Blues will travel to Mittersill for a 12-day training camp at the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. “The foundations for the season will be laid there,” remarked Terodde. “We can get to know each other even more, so it’s an important period for the whole team, but especially us new boys.”
