100,000 fans get a flavour for the new season

The ‘Schalke-Day’ has been a wonderful tradition for years and it was once more an unforgettable experience for the players, coaches, members of the board and fans alike. Just like last year, about 100,000 supporters swamped the stadium grounds on Sunday to get into the mood for the upcoming season.

Much applause in the VELTINS-Arena

Less than half an hour later, the coach held an open training session inside the VELTINS-Arena. The team were warmly received by the fans once being introduced into the stadium and subsequently the players started some on-the-ball training with every impressive play being met by applause.

After the work on the pitch had ended there was lots of fun to be had in the afternoon. Captain Ralf Fährmann and his teammates showed that they were not just talented with a football during the other events that were set up by S04 sponsors and partners as they joined the fans in a variety of fun competitions that were great laugh for all involved.

Naldo is player of the season

The team also took lots of time at the family-fest to sign autographs and take photos with all fans, younger and older. There was plenty on offer for everyone with free stadium tours, helicopter-flights over the stadium and video-game contests against the S04 E-sports team, as well as interviews with players and staff.

The player of the season award was also announced, with Naldo claiming this accolade after a vote by the ‘Schalke Fan-Club’. Naldo played every minute of every Bundesliga game last season and was a huge part of Schalke finishing runners-up with his consistently high performances.
