AGM 2023 compact: The most important takeaways

3608 members, 3563 of whom were entitled to vote, took part in the club's annual general meeting in the VELTINS Arena on Saturday (17/06). schalke04.de has summarised the most important information and decisions from the five-hour event.

Election of the Supervisory Board and Election Committee

As per schedule, the election of two members for the Supervisory Board took place, with Holger Brauner and Axel Hefer being elected.

Two seats on the Election Committee were also elected. Torsten Wieland was re-elected, and Dominic Karamarko was introduced the committee. The Honorary Council was also confirmed in office.

Great reception for Benedikt Höwedes

Benedikt Höwedes was named the club’s tenth honorary captain and was unanimously voted into the club’s hall of fame, as well as Ernst Poertgen and Ivica Horvat, receiving a standing ovation.

Voting on amendments to the statutes and motions

Three motions to amend the statutes were put to the vote at the general meeting and were all approved. Also on the agenda was a motion to amend the Rules of Contribution, which was also accepted. The members rejected a motion for a member survey.

Reports of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board and the Board Members

Axel Hefer emphasised in his speech that the past season, despite relegation, had a number of positives and brought courage for the objective of promotion next season. In addition, the Supervisory Board Chairman spoke about the lessons learned from the past season and gave four goals for the 2023/2024 campaign.

After his first full season as chairman of the board of FC Schalke 04, Bernd Schröder welcomed the members to „one of the most important days for the club“. Schröder said that the general meeting was an occasion to review the year, exchange opinions, hold important elections and look to the future.

In his speech on sport, Peter Knäbel looked to the past as well as the future, reflecting on two key decisions made in the past few days, the role of the area of sport in the overall concept of the club and a personal wish.

Christina Rühl-Hamers, member of the board and responsible for finances, gave an insight into the club’s monetary situation. Thanks to reduced liabilities and the completion of the legacy issues, she sees the club on the right track.

Approval

The general meeting approved the actions of the members of the executive board and the supervisory board for the financial year 2022.
