Benjamin Stambouli: “Why I’m staying at Schalke“

On Tuesday, Schalke fans couldn’t have wished for a more welcome hashtag than #BenjiBleibt, as the defender pens a contract extension that will keep him with the Royal Blues until 2023. In an interview with Schalke TV, the Frenchman discusses the deciding factors behind his decision to stay with the club.

The decision to stay at Schalke was an easy one for Stambouli, as the captain explains his special connection with the Royal Blues. “The best things in life take time” adds the Frenchman with a smile.

He was particularly moved by the all-round positive reaction amongst Schalke fans following the news: “I got so many messages from fans saying ‘Benji that is great news, you’ve made my day by signing the extension.’” This has once again demonstrated to Stambouli that Schalke is one big family.
