Bundesliga Home Challenge: S04 to face VfL Wolfsburg

Over 2 million fans followed the "Bundesliga Home Challenge" last weekend. Now four other teams have joined the showcase initiated by the DFL. This Sunday (April 5th), the Royal Blues will take on VfL Wolfsburg in round two. The match will kick off at 18:50 CEST. Former head coach and now member of the advisory board Huub Stevens agreed to take on the role of FIFA coach for the duration of the "Bundesliga Home Challenge".

„It was a great pleasure for me when the club asked if I could pcture preparing the team for the ‚Bundesliga Home Challenge‘. I didn’t hesitate for a moment,” Stevens explains, who in 1999 was elected by Schalke’s members as Coach of the Century. “We have to stop Wolfsburg as a team. If we have the ball, we have to play forward quickly. If we don’t have it, we as a whole team have to find a solution quickly. That must always be the basis,” explains the new Royal Blue FIFA coach, adding: “If the basis is right and we avoid mistakes, we have a good chance.”

Nassim Boujellab and Tim “Tim Latka” Schwartmann

Four other teams have joined the „Bundesliga Home Challenge“ for this weekend. In addition to VfL Bochum, VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach, referees Deniz Aytekin and Daniel Schlager have also formed an independent team. That means there will be 15 ties in total for the second matchday. The pairings have already been drawn, with the Royal Blues set to face the Wolves on Sunday (April 5th) at 18:50 CEST. Nassim Boujellab and Tim “Tim Latka” Schwartmann will once again compete for S04 in the “Bundesliga Home Challenge”. VfL Wolfsburg have nominated goalkeeper Lino Kasten and eSports athlete Benedikt „Salz0r“ Saltzer.

The clash between the Knappen and the Wolves has long been a classic in FIFA eSport. Alongside FC Schalke 04, which have long held a leading position in Europe with its unprecedented commitment to eSports, VfL Wolfsburg are also one of the gaming pioneers among the Bundesliga clubs. Most recently, the FIFA players from both clubs met in the “Virtual Bundesliga”. Schalke managed to win the last encounter between the two teams 6-3.

If you want to follow the „Bundesliga Home Challenge“ live on the weekend, the second matchday begins on Saturday (April 4th) at 15:30 CEST with the match between Hannover 96 and SV Darmstadt 98. Schalke’s fixtures will be played on Sunday (April 5th) and can be followed live on Twitch from 18:50 CEST.

Bundesliga Home Challenge

The showcase initiated by the DFL takes place as an online competition in the football simulation game FIFA 20. The teams in the „Bundesliga Home Challenge“ each consist of two players – one player from the team and one other person with a link to the club. According to the rules, the latter can be an eSports athlete, influencer or a second player. The game is played online on PlayStation 4. The „85 mode“ guarantees that all teams have the same skill level of 85. A game lasts around 25 minutes, and two games are played individually.

The „Bundesliga Home Challenge“ is not included in any official sports rating. The Virtual Bundesliga (VBL), an eFootball competition organized by the DFL since 2012, is currently on hold. The VBL Grand Final, which was actually planned as a face-to-face event last weekend, had to be postponed due to the current Coronavirus pandemic.
