Alessandro Schöpf and Omar Mascarell have jetted off to sunnier climes. Alexander Nübel and Daniel Caligiuri, on the other hand, are celebrating Christmas at home. The quartet had a chat to schalke04.de about what they are doing over the Holidays.

Alessandro Schöpf is enjoying the sun

In the past few years, I have spent Christmas at home in Austria with my family. We always ate tradition roast goose. I am doing it a bit differently this year. My girlfriend and I have left the cold and are enjoying some warm weather. It’s Christmas in the Seychelles for us. I am refilling the tank and recharging my batteries for the second leg of the season.

I get to wear t-shirts over Christmas. I flew home after the final game of the Hinrunde against Freiburg. We get pleasant temperatures here in Tenerife, more than 20 degrees Celsius usually. Time with my family gives me a lot of strength. The festive period has a lot of meaning in Spain. The highlight is the food on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I am celebrating Christmas with my family in Paderborn. Doing anything else is out of the question. We don’t have any traditional Christmas meals. My mum cooks something different every year. One thing is always the same though; we have a lot of good, deep conversations as a family. The ones we don’t have time for during the year.

A full itinerary for Caligiuri and his family

My wife and I have a busy festive period, because we are spending time with my family and with hers. It wasn’t easy to organise everything, because we obviously want to split our time equally. The food is always a highlight; my wife’s parents usually prepare traditional Italian fare, like pasta; in my family, we make things like Raclette. We won’t be totally without football over Christmas. My brother plays for SpVgg Greuther Fürth in Bundesliga 2, so we will definitely be discussing a few games from the past year.
