Honouring Rudi Assauer

Few people embodied FC Schalke 04 as much as Rudi Assauer did. There is a deep sadness surrounding the club regarding the death of the former manager, companion and friend. In the past few days there have been a huge number of messages from fans asking to rename the stadium after him. Rudi Assauer was the man who got in contact with Veltins in 1997, thus paving the way for their year-long sponsorship deal with the club and the arena.

VELTINS-Arena

We are sure that Rudi would like our Royal Blue stadium to be called the VELTINS-Arena for a lot while longer. Veltins and FC Schalke 04 subsequently renewed their naming rights partnership of the arena until 2027 last year. Our partner Veltins is very popular with the fans, the club and was with Rudi too.

The club will be proactive and approach the city of Gelsenkirchen, so that they rename a street after Rudi Assauer. One option would be the Arenaring. If this was renamed, the stadium’s address would then be named the VELTINS-Arena am Rudi-Assauer-Ring 1.
