Jochen Schneider: No deadline for Alexander Nübel

Head of Sport Jochen Schneider commented on the contract situation regarding team captain Alexander Nübel on Wednesday

“Alex has been given the option to extend his contract at FC Schalke 04,” says Schneider and explains that the Royal Blues have not set a deadline for the goalkeeper. The 22-year-old should be allowed enough time to reach a decision.

Schneider emphasized that the club is still hoping to extend the contract, which expires on 30th June 2020. The Head of Sport also said that discussions with Alexander Nübel and his agents have always been fair, honest and very positive.  “The whole process has been carried out entirely correctly so far,” says Schneider, confident that Schalke are well prepared for the future regardless of Nübel’s decision. “In Ralf Fährmann, we have an absolutely top goalkeeper returning to us on 1st July 2020. In addition, in Markus Schubert we have a young, extremely talented keeper in our ranks, and Michael Langer has always been a role model for our young players and is a reliable player.”
