Lucky Kick It competitors win trip of a lifetime

Five lucky Under-18 players from Georgia Storm Soccer Academy in Carrollton, just outside of Atlanta, won the VIP trip of a lifetime after competing in December’s Kick It 3v3 Tournament in Atlanta. Their experience brought them to Germany for the first time to support the Royal Blues in the final match of the 2018/19 Bundesliga season against Stuttgart at the VELTINS-Arena.

To win the chance to visit Gelsenkirchen, the teammates showcased what it means to be a Schalker by displaying self-confidence, strong character, supportiveness, respect, passion, focus and integrity in December’s event.

The youth athletes visited the Schalke training ground in Gelsenkirchen for a full day on Friday. The experience included a crossbar challenge on the training pitch, lunch at Charly’s Schalker, a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality stadium tour, open training for the First Team and a visit to the official Team Shop.

“It’s been really exciting to go through all the special experiences here,” Melara said. “From the beautiful stadium to watching the professionals train – which isn’t that different than what we do in training – has been so cool.”

Matchday featured even more highlights: a VIP hospitality experience before and after the match, a pitchside pre-match visit, and an exclusive meet-and-greet with the Schalke players. Everything was highlighted by a special opportunity to meet Schalke player and USA international Weston McKennie for autographs, photos and a genuine conversation.

“This was my first professional game – in any country, at any level,” Ryan said. “I couldn’t believe how crazy it was. I don’t think I will ever forget this. It’s amazing.”

The Georgia Storm 00/01 Boys traveled back to the States with once-in-a-lifetime memories.
