“We’re looking forward to collaborating closely with Monterey on both sporting and structural matters. In areas like scouting and player development, we’ll exchange knowledge and help one another to improve,” said Michael Langer who, in his capacity as a sport management trainee, served as the point of contact for both sides. “We’re very interested in the American market as a springboard for young, promising players. The club is led by an expert in Oliver Wyss, who has already shown how to establish good structures in US football. We can also benefit from this.”

Oliver Wyss, the club’s Chairman and Sporting CEO, was similarly optimistic about future collaboration: “As an American club, entering into a partnership with such a historic European club is truly special. Since I was born in Switzerland, I follow Schalke and their exceptional youth programme. I’m glad that we can now pool our knowhow. I felt really good following the talks with Frank Baumann and Michael Langer. Together, we can build something that will benefit both clubs in the long run.”

Monterey Bay Football Club are based in Seaside, California. The team has played in the second division of American football, the USL Championship, since 2022 and place a lot of stock in developing young players.
