Ozan Kabak on life in lockdown

Ozan Kabak suffered a Transverse Process Fracture of the second, third and fourth lumbar vertebrae during the Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln at the end of February, and has since been working hard on his recovery. Kabak spoke to schalke04.de about his rehabilitation and the effects of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic on his everyday life.

The centre back completed part of his rehabilitation in Turkey. “The coach let me do it. We discussed it and agreed that it would be best for me to spend two to three weeks with my family, depending on the situation,” said the 20-year-old. “But, whilst I was there, the borders closed ten 10-14 days later. All flights were cancelled. The whole situation completely changed. So I had to stay there for about a month.”

Kabak admits that he is very concerned about the current situation, and emphasises the importance of following the social distancing regulations. “Whether it be in training or in treatment, I always wear a mask and gloves,” said the defender, who has already made good progress in his recovery. “I’ve been back here for two weeks now and I’m following my training schedule. Things are progressing really well for me at the moment; let’s just see what will happen.”
