Rodrigo Zalazar scores the Goal of the Month for May

Mike Büskens' stunned expression on the sidelines on the final day of the season was likely mirrored by every Schalke fan watching their team take on Nürnberg at the Max-Morlock-Stadion on the final day of the season. Just seconds prior, Rodrigo Zalazar had put the ball into the back of the net with a spectacular long-range effort from within his own half. His goal from the 2-1 win against FCN has been voted as Sportschau’s Goal of the Month for May.

Rodrigo Zalazar

The opening quarter of an hour was behind us, as Zalazar caught FCN goalkeeper Carl Klaus off his line. From nearly 60 metres out, the midfielder took aim and sent the ball sailing over Klaus’ head and into the back of the net. The goal opened the scoring for the Royal Blues in an eventual 2-1 win, after which the team were able to celebrate winning the 2. Bundesliga title.

In addition to Zalazar, Verena Hanshaw (Eintracht Frankfurt), Marian Riedinger (Stuttgarter Kickers), Florent Muslija (SC Paderborn 07) and Marcel Bär (TSV 1860 München) were also nominated for the award.

Enjoy Zalazar’s goal from every angle!
