Royal Blues to face SG Wattenscheid 09 in a fundraising friendly

FC Schalke 04 will face local neighbours SG Wattenscheid 09 in a friendly to help raise funds for the financially insecure club. Royal Blues sporting director Christian Heidel confirmed the friendly on Monday after discussions with Oguzhan Can, chairman of the SG Wattenscheid 09 supervisory board.

“When SG Wattenscheid contacted us and asked for help to save the club, we made a very quick decision. We wanted to continue the close relationship between the clubs and actively help,” described Heidel regarding his reaction to Oguzhan Can’s call.

The date and time for the match has not yet been decided but the Royal-Blues will use this match as part of their preparations for the 2019/2020 season. The match will take place at the Lohrheidestadion in Wattenscheid, a suburb to the west of Bochum. Further details will be released in due course.
