Simon Terodde named as the NRW Footballer of the Year

Schalke’s striker Simon Terodde has been voted as North Rhine-Westphalia’s Footballer of the Year for 2021 by the fans. He beat off competition from Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund), Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), Simon Zoller (VfL Bochum) and Jonas Hofmann (Borussia Mönchengladbach).

“I’m delighted to be the NRW Footballer of the Year for 2021. The award will have a special place at my home,” said Terodde. “I would like to thank all the fans that voted for me and supported me,” added the attacker who scored his 154th second-division goal in the away game at Werder Bremen on 20th November to break Dieter Schatzschneider’s all-time record. The award has gone to a Schalke player for the sixth time. Manuel Neuer won it in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010, whilst Leroy Sané, Benedikt Höwedes and Leon Goretzka were all awarded with it in consecutive years between 2015 and 2017.
