Steven Skrzybski: We’re starting from scratch

After half a year at Fortuna Düsseldorf, Steven Skrzybski is back in blue and white. The attacker played plenty of minutes for FC Schalke 04’s Bundesliga rivals last year, but now the 27-year-old wants to fight for Schalke again.

“I had a good conversation with the head coach. David Wagner told me that we’re starting from scratch again. All players will have the chance to show their skills and prove themselves,” says Skrzybski, adding that he’s giving it his all in training in order to impress. “Everyone who knows me knows what Schalke means to me,” says the Berlin-born Royal Blue.

Skrzybski describes training as intense. “The training sessions are hard work, but that’s good. Every player gives it their all. In training, we’re working at the level you need to reach to be successful.”

The mood in the camp is also very positive. “Everyone is looking forward to the new season”, reports Skrzybski. The attacker is well aware that the Royal Blues have a particularly tricky first few games; current champions Bayern Munich are the opponents on the first day. “We’ll take it as it comes. We have to play all the sides at some point!”
