Suat Serdar: Holiday cancelled, training with Werner Leuthard

Despite the high temperatures and the hard work on the pitch, Suat Serdar has not stopped smiling for a minute throughout pre-season training. The reason for his cheerful mood is obvious – the midfielder is finally back with a ball at his feet almost three months after picking up a knee injury against FC Augsburg in May. “I’m free of pain now,” says the midfielder.

“I’m a bit sore, but that’s normal after two and a half months out,” says Serdar, who changed his plans for the summer break so that he could return to training early. “I cancelled two weeks of my holiday to come back and work with Werner Leuthard,” adds the midfielder.

I think that I’m really benefiting from the extra work with Werner.

That idea came from the Germany international himself. “It was the first time in my career that I was out injured for more than two months. It was a completely new situation for me. I just wanted to get back to playing football as quickly as possible,” explains Serdar. “Werner and I have worked really hard, and it’s also been fun. I think that I’m really benefiting from this extra work.”

The right footer describes pre-season preparations as a success so far. “We’re working hard, the mood is good and we all get on well,” says Serdar. For that reason, he firmly believes that “we will have a good season. I want to play like in the Hinrunde last season. We performed so well as a team then and proved that we can be as good as any side.”
