Trio of first team players join up with squad for first session after China tour

The Royal Blues kicked off the second part of their pre-season training on Monday (16.7). Domenico Tedesco welcomed back some familiar faces to training for the first time this summer, including the two Austrians Guido Burgstaller and Alessandro Schöpf, who were in action for their country until the middle of June.

Matija Nastasic was also part of the group, after he took part in Serbia’s preparations for their World Cup campaign following his long-term knee injury. Amine Harit is also back in Gelsenkirchen. The forward, who also took part in the World Cup with Morocco, completed some performance diagnostic tests. Burgstaller, Schöpf and Nastasic already completed their tests last Friday.

New arrival Salif Sané and Breel Embolo, who were both also involved in the World Cup, will return to team training in a few days as agreed. Thilo Kehrer was also not on the training pitches. The defender took part in an internal session due to problems with his heel.

Tedesco has planned for at least one session a day over the next week, as well as the friendly on Saturday (21.7) against Schwarz-Weiß Essen at 17:00 CEST.
